At A Glance
Ziggy is a Maltipoo who enrolled in a 2-Week Board and Train with Off Leash K9 Training in Phoenix, Arizona under the care of Bri. Ziggy was “raising a little ruckus” at home with poor manners like barking at people, jumping, and nibbling hands. His owners wanted him to have the best manners possible so they could take him out in public without stress.
Dog: Ziggy
Breed: Maltipoo
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Program: 2-Week Board and Train
Trainer: Bri
Main Focus: Barking at people, jumping, nibbling hands, general manners, obedience foundation for public outings
Outcome: Improved manners, reduced barking/jumping/nibbling behaviors, stronger obedience foundation, and easier public outings
The Challenge
Ziggy’s owners loved him, but his manners were limiting where they could take him.
Before training, Ziggy:
- Barked at people
- Jumped on people
- Nibbled hands
- Lacked general household manners
- Was difficult to bring out in public due to these behaviors
They wanted Ziggy to be a dog they could confidently take places, calm, polite, and easy to handle.
The Training Approach
Ziggy completed a 2-Week Board and Train designed to improve obedience and replace poor manners with trained behaviors.
Training focused on:
- Teaching foundational obedience commands (come, sit, down, place, heel)
- Building impulse control to reduce jumping and nibbling
- Improving calm behaviors around people to reduce barking
- Teaching structured routines so Ziggy has clear expectations at home
- Practicing obedience around distractions to prepare for real-world outings
- Replacing “ruckus” behaviors with polite alternatives and better focus
The goal was to help him become a small dog with big manners so public outings are enjoyable again.
The Results
Over the two weeks, Ziggy began showing better structure and more appropriate behavior patterns.
What improved:
- Reduced barking and jumping around people
- Less nibbling and mouthy behavior
- Improved obedience foundation for better control
- Calmer manners that support easier outings
- More predictable behavior at home and in public settings
Ziggy stayed fun and social, now paired with the manners he needs to go places confidently.
